Cary-Grove High student honors freedom on his first day of summer break

Maxwell Harwood, a 16-year-old sophomore at Cary-Grove High School, started his first day of summer break by volunteering with his friend, Jaxsen Murray, in setting up American flags throughout Cary’s Field of the Fallen, a Memorial Day weekend tribute honoring the 354 service members from Illinois who have been killed in action since Operation Desert Storm.

The boys wanted to demonstrate to their peers what is means to give back to their community and honor the men and women that fought for our freedom.
