Naperville North freshman receives inaugural U4Uganda Ambassador Scholarship

The board of directors of U4Uganda, a Naperville nonprofit organization committed to supporting schoolchildren in remote Ugandan villages, recently announced that Connor Potterton, a Naperville North freshman, has been awarded the organization’s first-ever Ambassador Scholarship.

Connor’s journey with U4Uganda began at just 7 years old, when he started fundraising to provide solar lights for families and outfit classrooms with desks in Alenga, Uganda.

Now, as he completes his freshman year, Connor continues to demonstrate his passion for service.

This summer, he will join a group of nine other missionaries on a mission trip to Alenga and Gomi, Uganda, where he will participate in building desks and visiting the schoolchildren he has helped to support.

“At the time U4Uganda was formed, our goal was to mobilize youth from our local community to help raise funds for desks so youth in Alenga could ‘get out of the dirt’ and into classrooms,” said Dolores Bopp Potterton, founder and president of U4Uganda. “Connor truly embodies the foundational values for which the 4 U’s stand: U care, U come, U give, U change.”

The Ambassador Scholarship is designed to recognize and support young leaders who are making a tangible difference in the lives of others, both locally and globally. Connor’s dedication to service, leadership, and cross-cultural understanding sets a powerful example for his peers.

U4Uganda congratulates Connor Potterton on this well-deserved honor and looks forward to the positive impact he and his fellow missionaries will make in Uganda this summer.
