Apartments, townhouses proposed for vacant land in Des Plaines

A five-story apartment building and townhouses have been proposed for vacant land on Des Plaines’ east side.

A real estate company wants to put up the structures at 9600 E. Golf Road. Located on the south side of Golf Road and just east of Interstate 294, the roughly 14-acre site once was home to an operation called the Fisherman’s Dude Ranch, city documents indicate.

It’s just north of the Bay Colony Condominiums complex.

The would-be developer has proposed putting 202 units in the apartment building. Additionally, 18 townhouse units would be constructed in three buildings, documents indicate.

The apartment building and other homes would be built on the north and east side of an existing 5-acre pond. An outdoor swimming pool and other amenities are planned.

The Des Plaines planning and zoning board will review the proposal during a workshop set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at city hall, 1420 Miner St.

The development team will discuss preliminary concepts, answer questions and collect feedback. No formal action on the proposal will be taken.
