A&A Ballet holds open auditions for ‘Art Deco Nutcracker’ at Naperville dance school
A&A Ballet, in partnership with Inspire School of Dance, will hold auditions for its one-of-a-kind “Art Deco Nutcracker,” giving Naperville area students and dancers an opportunity to participate in this holiday classic and Chicago area favorite.
This rendition of the classic holiday ballet has garnered praise for its innovative choreography, stunning period costumes, and captivating set designs, all inspired by the glamorous, exuberant Art Deco era of the 1920s.
A&A Ballet Artistic Director Alexei Kremnev expressed enthusiasm about this year’s auditions, stating, “Our Art Deco Nutcracker is a beloved Chicago family holiday tradition that brings a fresh and enchanting twist to a classic tale. We are eager to discover new talent in the area and see how they will contribute to the vibrancy and elegance of this production.”
The “Art Deco Nutcracker” has been a staple of the A&A Ballet Company’s repertoire since 2016 and is celebrated for its imaginative interpretation and the immersive experience it offers to audiences. This year’s production promises to be even more spectacular, with new elements and surprises that will captivate both newcomers and longtime fans alike.
The ballet will be performed in December at the Athenaeum Theater in Chicago.
Additionally, Inspire School of Dance will offer ballet instruction and workshops with the A&A Ballet faculty and preparation for various competitions through the Elite Private Training Program.

The placement classes begin with audition registration at 9:30 a.m. followed by ages 9 to 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. and ages 13 or older from 11 a.m. to noon.
The “Art Deco Nutcracker” auditions begin with registration at 11:30 a.m., followed by ages 11 to 13 from noon to 12:30 p.m., ages 14 or older from 12:30 to 1 p.m., ages 7 to 10 from 1 to 1:30 p.m., and ages 4 to 6 from 1:30 to 1:45 p.m.

Audition attire should be a black camisole leotard, pink footed tights, pink canvas ballet and pointe shoes (age/level appropriate) for girls; and black footed tights, white tight fitted T-shirt and black ballet shoes for boys.
The audition will include some basic dance movements and a combination to be performed in character. No preparation of audition material is necessary. Dancers will be notified via email within the week after the audition if they have been cast.
A production fee will be required for dancers performing “The Art Deco Nutcracker” and varies depending on role. Rehearsals begin in September and will take place primarily on Saturdays.
