Des Plaines earns spot on national ‘Best Places to Live’ list

Des Plaines has earned national recognition, ranking among the Top 250 Best Places to Live in the U.S. and landing at Number 10 in Illinois, according to the newest list from U.S. News & World Report.

Backed by strong marks in resident income and housing affordability, the distinction positions Des Plaines as one of Illinois’ most livable and forward-moving communities.

The rankings used numerous data sources to evaluate cities across five key categories: Quality of Life, Value, Desirability, Job Market, and Net Migration.

Des Plaines stood out with a higher-than-average median income, lower-than-average housing costs, and a stronger job market compared to similarly sized cities.

Together, these indicators point to a community that offers a compelling value for both families and professionals.

“Being recognized as one of the Top 10 cities to live in Illinois by U.S. News & World Report is a proud moment for all of us who call Des Plaines home,” Mayor Andrew Goczkowski said. “This honor reflects not just our strong economic momentum, but the vibrant, welcoming community we’ve built together. From exciting new downtown developments to our thriving neighborhoods and family-friendly events, Des Plaines continues to grow as a place people want to live, work and raise a family.”
