Somogyi returns as District 59 school board president

Longtime Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 board member Barbara Somogyi has been appointed by her colleagues as the new school board president.

Somogyi, who served her first term from 1975 to 1978 and was later elected in 1981, was the unanimous choice of fellow board members at a reorganization meeting Monday night. The Elk Grove Village resident has held the president's position on the board before, and received the Thomas Lay Burroughs Award for the State's Outstanding School Board President in 2005.

Board member Sharon Roberts, the previous board president, nominated Somogyi to take her spot. Janice Krinsky remains the board's vice president.
