Glen Ellyn church raising funds for local and global ministries
During May, the Mission Ministry of Southminster Presbyterian Church in Glen Ellyn offers the church family an opportunity to contribute to specific missions sponsored by Southminster.
The Mission Ministry will match contributions up to a total of $5,800 for the entire event. The deadline for donations is Sunday, June 1.
The “Gifts Grow” missions include Bridge Communities, Cuba Sister Church, DuPage PADS, Metropolitan Family Services (Family Shelter Service), People’s Resource Center, Walk-In Ministry, World Relief, and the Youth Mission Trip.
There are other mission ministries Southminster supports, such as the DuPage Care Center and Prayer Shawls knitting circle, which are not part of the “Gifts Grow” program as they do not provide financial support.
The church is active in the community hosting seasonal events, such as Luminaria Sunday for the American Cancer Society and March Mission Madness. Church members also collect for SCARCE as well as weekly groceries for the People's Resource Center. In the fall, the church participates in the annual We Sleep Out Saturday for Bridge Community. They also have held assorted collections for World Relief throughout the year, and this year we are collected clothing for the Repeat Boutique.
Throughout the year, the congregation also holds special offerings and collections for the Presbyterian Church USA throughout the year for its One Great Hour of Sharing, Peace and Global Witness, and Christmas Joy, as well as the local Christmas Offering.
Southminster Presbyterian Church has always been a congregation that reaches out in love to those around us. Presbyterians believe that whatever we do, we do to the glory of God. This is one way we worship during the week.
