Voters will be heard
This in response to the April 6 Daily Herald editorial entitled, “Daily Herald Opinion: A lesson on listening: There’s a particular message in results that upended GOP majority in Wheeling Township
I have had the honor and pleasure of working alongside two of the newly elected Wheeling Township 708 Community Mental Health Board members. They and the other new members embody dedication, integrity and never ever lose sight of the needs of their constituents who are among the most vulnerable members of our community, not by their own choosing.
I have no doubt that this group will indeed “watch how their party fares in coming elections in areas where they have newly gained control.”
I have no doubt that this fine group of people are aware that a “blue tide is not by any means permanent.” They will wisely use their time devoted to those who suffer from biological no fault brain illnesses, those with addiction and those with physical disabilities. The unheard. You might say they, like myself, have skin in the game. Not a self-serving one in the whole bunch.
I have no doubt that this hard-working group will never forget that this year “voters have made clear their insistence on being heard.” These newly elected individuals fully know what it’s like to be ignored due to irrational fear. Those who currently have or have lost family members know full well to follow the will of the voters because they and their constituents’ will are the same.
I have learned that it’s good to always be skeptical. I just wish that the Herald would have taken this moment to celebrate a hard-earned victory. The way the embedded undertones present themselves, I get the impression that the editors perhaps fear retribution down the road from the other side?
