Applications now open for Vernon Township Social Service Agency funding

Nonprofit organizations providing mental health services to Township residents are encouraged to apply by Friday, May 30 at 4 p.m.

The Vernon Township Community Mental Health Board is currently accepting applications for its next round of Community Grants. Local nonprofit organizations that provide services in the areas of mental health, substance use prevention and treatment, and developmental disabilities are encouraged to apply to receive a grant by 4 p.m. Friday, May 30.

This upcoming grant cycle follows two successful rounds of funding that awarded a total of more than $840,000 to 22 local nonprofit agencies. Recent recipients include Erie Family Health Centers, Glenkirk, JCC Chicago, Stand Strong Coalition and The Josselyn Center, among others. These grants have helped to increase access to critical mental health support services for Vernon Township residents, addressing everything from counseling and crisis care to support for individuals with substance abuse challenges and developmental disabilities.

“Our goal is to partner with local organizations that are making an impact and helping to improve mental and emotional health for our residents,” said Mental Health Board President Noelle Moore. “We’re proud to support the delivery of these vital services to our community.”

Established in December 2022, the VTCMHB operates under the Illinois Community Mental Health Act and serves as the local mental health authority for Vernon Township. Its mission is to plan, fund, and evaluate programs that improve the lives of residents, while also increasing awareness of service providers, reducing the stigma around mental health, and removing any barriers to accessing available services.

Interested organizations must meet accountability requirements set forth in statutes, laws, rules and regulations of federal, State, county and/or local government entities. Funding recipients will be notified of their grant award status in July of this year.
