Holy Trinity Lutheran to host next stop on Great Elgin Pipe Organ Tour April 27
The next stop on the Great Elgin Pipe Organ Tour will be at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division St., on Sunday, April 27.
The instrument featured was built in 1964 by the Austin Organs Inc. of Hartford, Connecticut, and is their opus 2402.
The program at 4 p.m. will include works by Vincent Lubeck, Samuel Barber, Denis Bedard, and Robert Powell performed by Holy Trinity’s music director and organist Matthew Wahl.
The program also will feature flutist Bethany Wahl, saxophonist Jeremy Zimmer, and hymn-singing.
Admission is free, and a free-will offering will be taken to support Holy Trinity’s music ministry.
The next to last concert will feature the 17th-century Hartmann/Kurtz positiv organ at the Church of the Brethren General Offices, 1451 Dundee Ave. in Elgin, on Sunday, May 25, at 4 p.m.
The Great Elgin Pipe Organ Tour will culminate with a grand finale concert at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, at First Congregational Church, 256 E. Chicago St.
It will feature musicians from the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and the tour organizer, organist Jeffrey Neufeld performing the famous Francis Poulenc Concerto for Organ, Strings, and Timpani, and the North American premiere of the Hans-André Stamm Concerto for Organ and Orchestra version for chamber orchestra.
