Cozen O’Connor promotes Evanston attorney Hayley Ryan

Cozen O’Connor has promoted Evanston attorney Hayley Ryan from associate to member in the firm’s Chicago office.

Ryan concentrates her practice on complex commercial litigation and data privacy litigation, representing companies in litigation matters in state and federal courts. She represents Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) defendants in multiple class actions, including drafting answers and affirmative defenses to BIPA claims, drafting motions to dismiss raising novel issues due to rapidly changing BIPA case law, and defending clients using purported voice recognition and facial recognition technology. Ryan also represents defendants in class actions asserting claims under the Video Privacy Protection Act (“VPPA) and the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (DPPA), as well as claims under state and federal consumer protection statutes.

In addition, she has significant trial experience as well as experience handling civil rights and consumer litigation matters, including pro bono experience representing a prisoner in a civil rights lawsuit alleging violations of the Eighth Amendment for cruel and unusual punishment.

Ryan, a native of Glencoe, and New Trier High School graduate, earned her B.A. from DePauw University (2013) and her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law (2016). She also completed the Regulatory and Antitrust Law certificate program at Cornell University and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional - US (CIPP/US).
