‘Sister Act’ brings disco-era fun to Wego Drama’s 2024-25 season
Wego Drama at Community High School continues its season with the musical comedy “Sister Act.”
A reimagining of the beloved film from the 1990s, “Sister Act” tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier who is a singer that has to go into hiding after she witnesses a murder. Her hiding place is the Queen of Angels Convent. Hilarity follows as Deloris brings new life to the church with her musical talents. Will Deloris survive to testify at trial? With the church survive? All the comedy plays out with songs inspired by the Disco era.
The theme for Wego Drama’s 2024-25 season is the “Love Theatre,” and there is much to love with the fun and amazing “Sister Act.”
The company of actors and crew for the show includes: from Carol Stream: Abigail Ballard, Ava Bloniarz, Alex Durkin, Mason Mullen, and William Wenberg; from West Chicago: Joy Andrawus, Victoria Andrawus, Alex Aguilar, Antwan Angeles, Vanny Arias, Lia Bellosa, Jacob Benitez, Tyler Benton, Lilyana Bonilla, Josie Bryson, Charlotte Conger, Wilbur Cooper, Jordin Crudup, Danais Gomez-Garcia, August Gutierrez, Allison Komaniecki, Matthew Krysinski, Ramiah McElroy, Millie Mora-Zarco, Jayden Morales, Elisa O’Brien, Dayanna Paramo, Nick Risconsciuto, Alejandra Rocha, Oliver Ruiz, Hailey Teran, Gabriel Valenzuela, Mary Wagner, Kai Weems, and Dayan Zenteno; and from Winfield: Bo Dragosh, Nick Jimenez, and Mariah Varnado.
The Wego Drama production is directed by Mark Begovich with technical direction by Christopher Jensen; music direction by Brandon Fantozzi with Marissa Janiszewski. The choreography is by Lora Vodicka, with costuming by Kim Maslo, and hair and makeup by Jaime Elsa.
Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, April 24-26, at West Chicago Community High School, 326 Joliet St.
Tickets are $8 or $5 for students. Tickets are available online at wegotheatre.com and at the door.
“Sister Act” features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, and a book by Cherri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner. Additional book material is by Douglas Carter Beane. The show is based on the Touchstone Pictures “Sister Act” written by Joseph Howard. It is rated PG. “Sister Act” is produced by arrangement with Musical Theatre International, New York.
