Lombard church youth group hosts pizza contest fundraiser for annual mission trip

The First Church of Lombard Youth Community held Its second “Best Pizza in Lombard” fundraiser contest for their annual summer mission trip that takes the group out of state to a rural or urban setting to do outreach for people in need.

This year, the youth community heads to the city of Wyoming, Michigan to volunteer at the United Church Outreach Ministry.

They will be working on community gardens, building repair and maintenance, tutoring children, food pantry work, office help, clothes pantry work and more.

More than 120 church members and friends paid to attend the fundraiser held on Friday, April 11. They raised more than $1,200 to defray costs for the trip.

Five Lombard pizzerias each generously donated four family-sized pizzas to put their crust, sauce, cheese and toppings to the challenge to compete for the best: sausage, pepperoni, cheese and original/specialty pizza in Lombard.

Gluten-free pizzas were judged from three pizzerias in an additional category. The tasty competition was, indeed, extremely close in every category.

The winners with the most votes were: Triano’s Pizza & Beef for best pepperoni pizza, Billy Bricks Wood Fired Pizza for best gluten free pizza, Old Town Pizza Co. for best original pizza with the Patron — taco pizza, Rosati’s Pizza for the best sausage pizza, and Little Caesars for the best cheese pizza.

Parents brought in tasty desserts to finish off the meal. The Lombard pizzerias’ dough helped the youth community to raise more dough for their mission trip. The youth community is very grateful for all that attended, voted and donated to the event. For more information on the event, call (630) 629-2630.
