GPS psychologist to help kids navigate thoughts, feelings and self-talk

On Wednesday, April 16, the GPS Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families will host psychologist and author Dr. Susan David in a presentation titled “Emotional Agility: Skills to Navigate Change and Embrace Self-Compassion.” David will speak at noon and 7 p.m. via Zoom. David believes how people navigate their thoughts, feelings and self-talk ultimately drives relationships, happiness and health. Self-doubt, shame, sadness, fear or anger can steer people in the wrong direction. David will explain how adults can prepare young people to navigate the roller coaster of emotions often associated with adolescence while being mindful that overprotecting young people can discourage growth and impede their development. Participants will learn to be flexible, resilient and adaptable by holding difficult feelings loosely, facing them compassionately and then moving past them.

David is one of the world’s leading management thinkers and an award-winning Harvard Medical School psychologist and instructor. Her award-winning bestselling book “Emotional Agility: Get Unstuck, Embrace Change, and Thrive in Work and Life” describes the psychological skills critical to thriving in times of complexity and change.

David will be in conversation with Dr. Kristin Neff, author of “Mindful Self-Compassion for Burnout: Tools to Help Heal and Recharge When You’re Wrung Out by Stress” and “Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself.”
