Elgin man charged with stealing credit, debit cards from Bartlett construction site

Bartlett police Tuesday arrested an Elgin man accused of stealing a wallet containing credit and debit cards from a van at a construction site March 18.

Carlos D. Gonzalez, 36, is faces Class 3 felony charges of burglary to a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of credit/debit cards, police said.

Police said they received a report from the victim at 8 p.m. March 18 that his wallet had been stolen from his vehicle earlier in the day on the 300 block of Foxglove Drive. He later found several unauthorized charges and attempted transactions on his credit cards.

Following an investigation and with assistance from Elgin police, Bartlett officers identified Gonzalez as their suspect, officials said. They reported finding that the victim’s credit and debit cards had been used or attempted to be used at several businesses across the area.

Police located Gonzalez near his home in Elgin and took him into custody. He was released pending a scheduled court appearance Friday morning at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
