Chicago a cappella blends vocal jazz standards and classics at April 6 concert

Chicago a cappella concludes its “Jazz a cappella” series with a concert on Sunday, April 6, in Naperville.

Jazz takes on a new dimension through the human voice, the 10 singers of Chicago a cappella will be blending iconic vocal standards like “My Funny Valentine” with vibrant adaptations of instrumental masterpieces by Gillespie, Ellington, and Coltrane.

Reimagined classics like Birdland and Satin Doll are joined by a premiere from HerVoice competition winner Devon Gates, honoring jazz’s artistry and timeless legacy.

The concert will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave.

The full-length concert program (110 minutes including an intermission) is recommended for ages 8 or older, enjoyable for all generations of the family.

Free parking is available at the city’s Central Parking Garage, just west of Wentz Hall at 75 E. Chicago Ave. Free parking also available on surrounding streets.

Help support Chicago a cappella with its one-night only “Cabaret Night” at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at The Fremont at iO Theater in Chicago. The singers will bring you an unforgettable night of solos from the worlds of Broadway, jazz, pop, cabaret, and more, accompanied by Paul Langford. Proceeds from the event support its artistic and educational programs.

General seating tickets for $50 are non-reserved general admission tickets in the standard seating area.

Also available are reserved premium tables for four guests in a prime location, front and center of the stage are $300. They will receive four drink tickets (one per seat) good for any drink from the bar. There also will be reserved premium individual tickets for $75 in the seating area with the best sight lines. Purchasers receive one drink ticket good for any drink from the bar. Reserved second-tier tickets ($65) are for seats along the front row of the second tier at a counter or at tables in the center of the second tier seating area.
