Voters favor incumbents in Kane County council and board races

Incumbents fared well on Tuesday night in several city council and village board races in Kane County.

Here’s a look at the unofficial results.

Elgin

In Elgin, incumbents Corey Dixon, Dustin Good and Steve Thoren will be joined by top vote-getter Diana Alfaro on the city council.

Eight candidates had been vying for four available seats. Incumbent Carol Rauschenberger opted not to seek reelection.

Unofficial totals with all precincts reporting from Kane and Cook counties showed Alfaro leading with 5,162 votes, Dixon with 4,909 votes, Good with 4,435 and Thoren with 3,990 votes.

The next highest finisher was Maggie Beyer with 3,738 votes. She was followed by Erik Bosque Pena, Mark Smith and Cecilia Ivana Brooks.

St. Charles

There were contested races for four seats on the St. Charles City Council.

In Ward 1, incumbent Ronald Silkaitis bested challenger Robert Kasper.

According to unofficial totals, Silkaitis had 691 votes, and Kasper had 553 votes.

Silkaitis served as an alderman from 1997 to 2009 and returned to the city council in 2013. Kasper is a physician with Northwestern Medicine.

In Ward 2, incumbent Ryan Bongard won against Angela Churchill with a total of 1,249 votes to 676.

Unofficial totals in Ward 3 showed incumbent Paul Lencioni losing to challenger Vicki Spellman.

Spellman had 490 votes to Lencioni’s 464. Carolyn Waibel had 371 votes.

In Ward 5, incumbent Steve Weber appears to have fended off challenger Lauren Duddles.

Weber had 716 votes, and Duddles had 636 votes.

Geneva

The Geneva City Council will have several new members.

Third Ward residents appear to have chosen Larry Furnish over Lee W. Eysturlid and Kevin J. Ziegler.

According to unofficial totals, Furnish had 474 votes, Eysturlid had 258 votes and Ziegler had 107 votes.

In Ward 4, incumbent Amy Mayer won comfortably over Erin M. Di Silvestro by a 748 to 282 vote.

Fifth Ward residents picked Jeff Palmquist over fellow newcomers Patrice Berthea and Kim Edwards.

Palmquist had 596 votes, Bertheau had 581 votes and Edwards had 146 votes.

Batavia

There were contested races for three seats on the Batavia City Council.

According to unofficial totals, Dustin Pieper, who was appointed to the council in 2023, defeated challenger Douglas A. Eldrenkamp.

Pieper had 269 votes, and Eldrenkamp had 165 votes.

In Ward 5, James Fahrenbach turned back Garran DeWain Sparks.

Fahrenbach had 516 votes, and Sparks had 196 votes.

The Ward 6 race saw Matthew Anderson, with 431 votes, besting Kate Cuneo, who had 374 votes.

Elsewhere

In Carpentersville, five candidates sought election to three seats on the village board, with Jim Malone, Josephine Maniscalco and Sameer Gupta coming out on top according to unofficial results.

In Sleepy Hollow, William Hof, Kelly L. Thomas and William J. Kennelly claimed the three available seats on the village board.

In Sugar Grove, Nora London, Michael Roskopf and Anthony “Tony” Speciale will win the three open seats on the village board.
