How does this happen?

In the past two weeks, I have received texts from two local candidates asking for my vote in the April election. This is not the first time this has happened. Last fall before the presidential election I received numerous fundraising texts from candidates in both parties, several of whom were running for federal offices in other states. I am 100% certain these were bulk or group blasts going to thousands of people. How do these politicians get hold of cell phone numbers? And, in this day and age of massive spam attempts, why do they have the right to bother me with their drivel?
