Man shot while sitting in parked car in Wheeling

Wheeling police are investigating a shooting late Monday night that left a 19-year-old man hospitalized.

According to police, officers responded to the 800 block of McHenry Road, in the Colonial Townhomes subdivision, at 10:59 p.m. Monday for reports of a shooting.

They arrived to find the victim sitting inside his car suffering from injuries authorities described as not life-threatening.

An investigation determined the 19-year-old was in his vehicle waiting for a friend to leave a nearby apartment when he was shot, police said.

Witnesses told investigators they saw a vehicle pull up next to the victim’s car and several individuals get out. One of the individuals then fired several shots into the victim’s vehicle before they fled the scene, police said.
