Wheeling Police Department workers to get pay raises

The Wheeling Police Department’s community service officers and records clerks will get 3% pay raises this spring under a new labor agreement.

The village board approved the three-year deal with the employees’ union, Metropolitan Alliance of Police Chapter 786, on Monday night. Union members previously ratified the deal, village documents indicate.

The union’s current two-year contract expires April 30.

The department employs six community service officers and five clerks.

Starting May 1, the workers’ pay will increase 3%. It’ll increase another 3% on May 1, 2026, and 3.5% on May 1, 2027.

Additionally, the employees will get more money to pay for uniforms, documents show. The contract also requires employees in the village’s PPO health plan to begin paying $20 copays for medical office visits.

The village board approved the contract Monday without debate as part of its consent agenda, which is reserved for routine items.

The workers covered by the new pact are civilians. Sworn personnel are covered by different contracts.

Wheeling’s eight police sergeants got a new contract in June 2024. Wheeling 46 police officers and three corporals got a new contract in October 2024. Both of those deals were for three years.
