Buffalo Grove village president condemns vandalism of Tesla center
Buffalo Grove Village President Eric Smith condemned Friday’s vandalism at the soon-to-open Tesla sales, service and delivery center on Dundee Road near Old Arlington Heights Road.
Smith read a statement at the beginning of Monday’s village board meeting, calling the vandalism unacceptable and saying it has no place in the village.
“This destructive act has resulted in significant property damage and financial loss,” he said. “Such behavior not only harms individual businesses, but also tarnishes the reputation of our entire community.”
The graffiti on the building located on the 900 block of Dundee Road included several profanity-filled messages on the glass of the showroom.
The messages were aimed at President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who currently is a senior adviser to the president and heads the Department of Government Efficiency. One message supported transgender rights.
Workers spent Saturday morning scrubbing the graffiti from the windows.
Erin L. White, 26, of Buffalo Grove, is charged with felony criminal damage to property and misdemeanor criminal trespass.
She is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday in Rolling Meadows.
Buffalo Grove police officers responded at 4:07 p.m. to reports of vandalism.
Buffalo Grove police Chief Brian Budds said several witnesses called Northwest Central Dispatch.
Budds praised investigators for their work.
“It's crucial to understand that vandalism is a criminal offense,” Smith said. “Those who engage in such activities will face legal consequences.”
