Javier Banuelos: 2025 candidate for Aurora City Council Ward 7
Bio
Office sought: Aurora City Council Ward 7
City: Aurora
Age: No answer given
Occupation: Manager
Previous offices held: None
What is the most serious issue your community will face in the coming years and how should the city council respond to it?
I believe that based on the current political climate. Increased polarization and social disintegration is a serious issue because it can undermine community togetherness. I believe we should promote initiatives that encourages inclusivity and conversations among different groups.
How would you describe the state of your community's finances? What should be the top priorities for spending during the next few years? Are there areas of spending that need to be curtailed?
Based on the 2023 financial report it seems like our city is stable. I believe public safety which includes emergency services (i.e., police, fire dept, etc.) should have continued investments along with infrastructure improvements (roads, water systems, transportation, etc.). Areas of spending that could improve would be debt management.
What do you see as the most important infrastructure project the community must address? Why and how should it be paid for? Conversely, during these uncertain economic times, what project(s) can be put on the back burner?
As it is across the nation, aging infrastructure like roads and water systems should be addressed. A combination of state and federal grants and any existing motor fuel and transportations taxes could be used as sources of funding. Any nonessential beautification projects and or any large-scale mixed developments that don’t require immediate demand can be put on the back burner.
Describe your experience working in a group setting to determine policy. What is your style in such a setting to reach an agreement and manage local government? Explain how you think that will be effective in producing effective actions and decisions with your city council.
I have consistently used a democratic and data-driven style that involves collaboration and inclusivity with decisions based on facts. I believe this approach is effective because it keeps the dialogue open and insures all voices are heard before making a decision.
What makes you the best candidate for the job?
I believe I am the best candidate because my commitment to family extends beyond my home — it shapes my dedication to this community. Just as I prioritize(d) the well-being, and success of my own family, I will bring that same passion and care to serving the people of my community, making sure that every decision is made with my constituents best interests in mind.
What’s one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?
I read about a mobile unit like a small bus that rotates through different neighborhoods and provides services like mental health crisis support or other types of services. This would be an interesting concept to implement if our city budget allows.
