A wasted effort on renaming building

The role of a county board is to serve the public interest by addressing important and pressing issues that affect the community. While it is not uncommon for disagreements and grievances to arise, it is imperative for the board to prioritize matters that have a significant impact on the well-being and development of the county.

In recent years, the trend of renaming buildings has gained momentum in academic, corporate, and public sectors. This practice, often driven by social and political motivations, ostensibly aims to reflect contemporary values and rectify historical injustices.

However, a critical examination reveals that renaming buildings is largely a symbolic gesture that diverts attention from more substantive issues, consumes valuable resources, and fails to produce meaningful change.

Renaming the Henry Hyde building is the most recent example of the DuPage County Board’s wasted effort.
