Proposed levy hike will ensure security
I am writing to express my support for the proposed slight increase in sales tax to fund our public safety in Kane County. No one expects an emergency. Hopefully, most of us will never need to make a call to 911, but if we do, someone is there to answer the phone. This modest tax adjustment is a necessary step to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.
Our Sheriff’s Department plays a crucial role in keeping law and order, responding to emergencies and protecting our citizens. Adequate funding is essential for them to continue their vital work, including hiring and training deputies, maintaining equipment and implementing community policing initiatives.
Similarly, our 911 services are the lifeline for individuals in distress. The efficiency and effectiveness of these services can mean the difference between life and death. By maintaining funding, we can ensure that our 911 operators have the resources they need to respond promptly and effectively to emergencies.
The Office of Emergency Management coordinates responses to natural disasters, public health crises and other emergencies. In recent years, we have experienced the devastating impact of such events. Investing in this office will enhance our community’s preparedness and resilience, ultimately saving lives and reducing the long-term costs associated with disaster recovery.
While no one enjoys paying higher taxes, the proposed increase is minimal and will have a significant positive impact on our community’s safety and security. As we watch our federal services unravel by the hour, we need to support our local government, and local government needs to support us.
I urge you to endorse the proposed Kane County Board Retail Sales Tax Levy and invest in the well-being of our community.
