Appreciation for quality
Among the pleasant surprises moving from the D.C. area to the Chicago suburbs has been discovering The Daily Herald. My dad was a newsman (as they were then uniformly called) in D.C., I was one for a decade and my late wife was a D.C. reporter for over 30 years, covering the Reagan White House and Congress. Journalism literally is in my blood. And serious unbiased but intelligent reporting is in big trouble, with daily newspapers struggling in both print and digital.
So it is with appreciation for quality that I welcome the Herald into my new home — a solid mix of national, international and community news and events, the variety of its coverage reflecting the diversity of our Chicago area communities. I am sure there are financial pressures to cut back the Herald staff faces daily. I can only hope that you are able to keep up the good work.
