Boys basketball roundup: Grayslake Central wraps up third straight NLCC championship; Barrington’s Tucker wins 300th game
Grayslake Central grabbed a three-peat Tuesday in Grayslake.
The Rams claimed their third consecutive North Lake County Confernce in a row by knocking off Lakes 41-30. Aayan Siddiqui led Grayslake Central (21-9, 12-2) with 13 points while Eric Brum and Chris Jaimes each had 11 points. Lakes (7-20, 4-10) was led by Ben Newcomb’s 17 points.
The Mid-Suburban League had its final regular East-West crossover games Tuesday in preparation for Wednesday night’s championship game between Fremd (24-2) and host Rolling Meadows (25-4) at 7 p.m.
Barrington 73, Elk Grove 46: Barrington gave coach Bryan Tucker his 300th career win at Barrington, and he is 141-82 against MSL teams. The Broncos tallied 26 points in the second quarter and 25 points in the third quarter to pull away as Danny Shackleton scored 17 points and Oliver Gray tallied 16 points. Cooper Casterton led Elk Grove (3-27) with 24 points.
Conant 70, Prospect 53: Bradle Biedke, who recently committed to Illinois Wesleyan, led the way for Conant (14-14) with 16 points. Nate Hahn had 15 points and Jakub Glowacki added 10 points. Ben Schneider led Prospect (13-16) with 26 points.
Hoffman Estates 69, Buffalo Grove 57: Joey Hernandez led the way for Hoffman (21-10) with 25 points. Torey Baskin added 21 points while Nate Cleveland chipped in 9 points.
Palatine 53, Hersey 38: Tony Balanganayi led all scorers with 16 points as the Pirates (17-13) picked up a solid road win. Brady May chipped in 8 points for Palatine.
Schaumburg 65, Wheeling 40: The Saxons (21-10) got a big night from Ray Black, who had 21 points, Cam Anderson with 19 points, Jordan Tunis with 11 and Zion Young, who had 7 points. Kye Parker Peterson had 12 points and -Brent Collar 9 points to pace Wheeling (11-19).
Antioch 58, Round Lake 35: Antioch has now won 6 of its last 7 games as the Sequoits (15-13, 11-3) finished second in the NLCC. Marshal Gehrke scored 14 points and is just 6 points from the 1,000-point mark for his career.
Grant 61, Grayslake North 54: Grant (16-11, 9-5) trailed for three quarters and rallied in the final period for the win over Grayslake North (16-14, 8-6).
Addison Trail 81, Leyden 73: Nicholas Gattuso and Mohamed El-Hindi each scored 25 points while Ernesto Sanchez netted 12, but it still wasn’t enough for the Eagles (8-21, 3-9).
Glenbrook South 67, Maine East 61: Maine East (7-20) fell a bit short in its CSL crossover. Brandon Schreiber led the Demons with 20 points, Jayden Dozie had 16 points, Kaiden Wade had 12 points and Jaiden Whitehead 10 points.
Maine South 92, Maine West 63: Maine South (13-16) came up with the win, while Davion Tate scored a school-record 46 points in the loss for Maine West (14-16).
New Trier 70, Vernon Hills 44: Vernon Hills (16-13) came up short at New Trier (20-11). Anthony Morgan, Jr. led Vernon Hills with 15 points, Daniel Odhiambo added 13 points while Jeremy Zamost chipped in 8.
Lake Forest Academy 52, Carmel 43: The Caxys (22-6) had a bit too much and knocked off Carmel (10-19).
