Hoffman Estates rehabilitation and health care center celebrates grand opening of in-house dialysis unit

State Sen. Cristina Castro and Mayor William "Bill" McLeod joined health care leaders and staff of Alden Poplar Creek Rehabilitation and Health Care Center to celebrate the grand opening of its in-house dialysis unit managed by DaVita.

The in-house six-chair dialysis unit offers multiple shifts, serving up to 18 in-house dialysis patients.

The new unit makes Alden Poplar Creek one of the few health care facilities in the Hoffman Estates area offering in-house dialysis services. As a provider for one of the most vulnerable and susceptible demographics to infections and viruses, Alden Poplar Creek health care professionals wanted to ensure patient safety and comfort by eliminating the inconvenience of transporting patients out of the facility to receive treatment.

"We are so excited for the opening of this unit. We're excited to bring this service not only to our residents here, who have the opportunity to live here long-term and receive their dialysis here, but also open up to our community and offer those short-stay patients the opportunity to stay here and not have to travel to their dialysis appointments, which we know can be very taxing on them and very tiring. So, we're just so grateful to be partnering with DaVita," said Sarah Kurth, Alden Poplar Creek administrator.

"It's very easy to advocate for Alden" said Sen. Castro. "We are starting to make the investments, and we're starting to see it right here, and I think it's great for our residents. [Alden Poplar Creek] has done a tremendous job, and we will continue to fight not only for the residents here, the residents of Hoffman Estates, but also to make sure Alden gets what it needs so that they can continue with the great work they're doing."

The unit features state-of-the-art equipment, individual flat-screen TVs, comfortable treatment chairs, and a complimentary coffee and tea bar. Dialysis patients will receive coordinated care between Alden Poplar Creek staff and DaVita health professionals.

Alden Poplar Creek and DaVita's celebration included a tour of the dialysis unit for local health care professionals, partners, and community members.
