Wheeling man charged in Elgin shooting, ordered detained

A Kane County judge on Wednesday ordered a Wheeling man detained after he was accused of a shooting Sunday afternoon in Elgin, officials said.

When officers responded to the shooting just after 1 p.m. Sunday on the 400 block of Summit Street, they found an adult man who had suffered a serious injury, according to a news release from the Elgin Police Department. The man was taken to a hospital for a treatment; there was no further information on his condition.

David Celestine, 20, was arrested later Sunday and charged Tuesday with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm without a valid firearm owner identification card, the release stated.

Celestine was in court Wednesday and the judge ordered him to be detained until his next court date.
