Impressive work, uncertain future

I was amazed watching the construction of the Clove apartments by people with no fear of heights, weather or hard work.

I saw solitary brick walls standing high, supported only by slender support poles. I saw stair or elevator shafts erected and placed such that the building to be constructed around them would meet with amazing precision. I watched as a huge steel beam hung from a crane guided by brave, sure hands into place.

But from across the street in the Jewel lot or from westbound Lake-Cook Road, it kind of looks like an overbearing well-windowed warehouse, way out of design sync with the rest of the area. And that garage on the north end — if it’s for apartment parking, quite a walk from many of the units.

Time will tell.
