Naperville teens charged in vape shop burglary
A pair of Naperville teens were ordered on home detention Monday as they face charges stemming from the burglary early Sunday of a local vape shop.
The juveniles, a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy, each face a felony charge of burglary, and a charge of criminal damage to property after the break-in at the business on the 1500 block of North Aurora Road.
Authorities say police were called to the shop about 1:07 a.m. Sunday after an alarm went off. They arrived to find the front glass window shattered, authorities said.
About 40 minutes later, officers found the teens walking near the store, authorities said. When the officers attempted to speak to the boys, both attempted to run away but were apprehended following a brief chase, officials said.
DuPage County prosecutors say the teens went to the business together, threw a rock through the front window and entered the store, where they stole an unknown amount of vape products before fleeing.
The teens are scheduled to be in court Jan. 27.
