State grant to fund upgrades at Elgin’s Wing Park
Elgin Parks and Recreation will receive a $600,000 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant from the state that will be used to enhance Wing Park.
The funding will be used to create a multigenerational and inclusive playground designed to cater to children of all ages and abilities, with innovative equipment, sensory elements and accessible play structures, officials said.
Enhancements are also planned for the band shell area, with improved seating. Design work will begin in 2025 with construction planned for 2026.
The 121-acre regional park is at 1010 Wing St.
