Pedestrian who died after being hit by car in Elgin identified
The woman who died after being hit by a car while crossing a street last week in Elgin has been identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Maria Matias, 67, of the 0-100 block of Green Ridge Road in Elgin, was crossing the street at National and State streets about 1:20 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13, when a car traveling east on National Street hit her and a male pedestrian.
Both were taken to the hospital, and Matias died the next day at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. The identity and condition of the male pedestrian was not available.
The Elgin Police Department said the driver remained at the scene after the crash, which is under investigation.
