Huntley church to host open house focusing on meditation and prayer
Start the new year in a meaningful way with meditation, practice and prayer at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, 10805 Main St. in Huntley. The “Release and Renew” open house will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7.
“The release and renew is a self-guided time of meditation, practice and prayer,” said Donna Kelly, director of connections ministry at Shepherd of the Prairie. “We will have four stations set up corresponding to the four directions of north, south, east and west. Each will have a meditation to read and reflect with a simple practice, such as to light a candle or anoint oneself with oil with a corresponding prayer.”
“Through an open house those who attend can start at any of the stations and move around the room at their own pace. This practice combines parts of Indigenous people, Jewish, and Christian rituals, though it is definitely Christian in nature.”
Members of the Shepherd of the Prairie staff will be available for questions or assistance.
