Schaumburg Township offers free property tax appeal seminar Jan. 6

Residents can appeal their Cook County property taxes at the Township of Schaumburg now through Jan. 7, 2024.

The township is open during the appeals period to assist residents Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The township has two options for residents to complete appeals. They are:

• Email Victor Morales at vmorales@schtwn.org your home pin number, phone number, email and home address. This is the fastest and most convenient way to appeal -- no visit to the office is required. Emails must be received at least one hour before closing on the last day of appeals.

• Visit the township Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bring your pin number, phone number email and home address.

The township can assist with residential property tax appeals for townhouses and single-family homes, but cannot process condo, apartment or commercial property appeals. Residents living in condos and apartments should work with their respective association representative.

Residents also can attend a free property tax appeal seminar for Schaumburg Township residents at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg, Door C1.

At the seminar, residents will receive an overview on how to file an appeal and one-on-one assistance. The event is hosted by Cook County Board of Review Commissioner George Cardenas, Township of Schaumburg Assessor John R. Lawson and Cook County Commissioner Kevin B. Morrison, in conjunction with state Sen. Laura Murphy, state Sen. Cristina Castro, state Rep. Fred Crespo, state Rep. Michelle Mussman and Cook County Commissioner Sean Morrison.

“Township of Schaumburg homeowners will have one last chance to appeal ahead of the triennial reassessment year in 2025,” said township assessor John R. Lawson. “Residents should remember that even if their previous appeals were unsuccessful, they can still appeal with the Cook County Board of Review. The township offers easy and remote appeals, and I hope they’ll take advantage of this free service.”

Any questions can be directed to the township assessor’s office at (847) 285-4569. Additional information can be found at schaumburgtownship.org/departments/assessors-office/.
