Masters on taxes
The Chicago Bears may be losers on the football field, but they’re masters at the tax game. They were able to get the Arlington Park property taxes reduced from $8.9 million to $3.6 million — a decrease of approximately 60%.
At the same time, property taxes for many homeowners throughout Cook County have increased from 30% up to 100% in some cases. The taxes on my Hoffman Estates townhome went up 60% last year. It seems that when our elected officials open a door for big corporations, they have to close a window for average citizens to offset the lost revenue.
When I spoke with my county commissioner, Keven Morrison, about the issue, he said there was nothing he could do. Exactly who are the people on our county, municipal and school boards elected to represent?
