Boys basketball roundup: Hersey wins thriller; Gray’s 28 leads Barrington; Grayslake Central rolls
Charlie Pomis knocked down a 3-pointer at the buzzer in overtime to keep Hersey unbeaten Tuesday in Arlington Heights.
Pomis’ triple lifted Hersey to a 52-51 win over Hoffman Estates. Hersey (6-0) was led by Jackson Hupp’s 18 points while Brody Variano had 11 points.
Joey Hernandez had 18 points to lead Hoffman Estates (5-2). Daiquan Daniels had 10 points and 7 rebounds, Torey Baskin had 10 points while Nate Cleveland added 17 rebounds.
Barrington 61, Prospect 47: Barrington (4-1) continued its strong start behind Oliver Gray’s 28 points, 3 assists and 5 rebounds while Adam Baird and Gus Edstrom each had 8 points. Prospect (2-5) was led by Brad Schneider, who had 16 points and Ryan Lifton who had 12.
Conant 50, Wheeling 26: Conant (4-2) picked up another win behind Rohan Patel’s 12 points, Nathan Hahn’s 11 and Bradley Biedke’s 9 points. Wheeling (3-4) was led by Brent Collar’s 13 points.
Fremd 78, Buffalo Grove 54: Fremd picked up a solid win to improve to 5-1 behind Rafael Pinto (22 points), Jordan Williams (13 points), Sam Hirsch (11) and Chase Nelson (10). Buffalo Grove (2-3) was led by Alex Sirbu, who had 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Glenbrook North 53, St. Viator 50: St. Viator (4-2) fell just a bit short in Arlington Heights. The Lions were paced by Dawson Charles with 15 points and Henry Marshall’s 11 points. Glenbrook North (5-2) was led by Ryan Weil’s 14 points.
Grayslake Central 51, Carmel 39: Chris Jaimes pumped in 27 points for Grayslake Central (5-1). Ethan Henderson led Carmel (0-7) with 15 points.
Maine South 65, Maine East 52: Rico D’Alesandro had 18 points, Nick Hachigan 12 points and Filip Rasic 11 points as Maine South (3-4) beat their Park Ridge rivals. Brandon Schreiber had 28 points for Maine East (3-4).
Schaumburg 110, Elk Grove 61: Schaumburg (5-1) broke the century mark as nearly ever Saxon scored. Cam Anderson led with 19 points, Javonte McCoy and Tony Horton had 14 points each, Jacob Janowski scored 12 points and Jason Jancik 11 points. Cooper Casterton and Nolan Brand 13 each had 13 points for Elk Grove (0-8)
Schaumburg Christian 67, Westminister 29: Schaumburg Christian (5-3, 2-0) won its third in a row as 10 different players scored led by Tanish Dundi’s 10 points and remained atop the Northeastern Athletic.
