Geneva High School puts on ‘A Christmas Carol’ Dec. 5-7
The ghosts of past, present, and future are haunting Geneva High School this holiday season as they set to premiere their fall play, “A Christmas Carol.”
This classic Charles Dickens show tells the tale of the infamous Ebenezer Scrooge as he is forced to reckon with his wrongdoings and flaws, ultimately culminating in an uplifting reformation of character.
Performances will be at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Dec. 5-6 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in the high school auditorium, 416 McKinley Ave. Tickets are $10, $7 for senior citizens or students; children age 6 or younger are free. Tickets are available via ticketpeak.co/genevahighschool304/events.
Audiences of all ages are sure to find the show humorous and heartening as the holidays creep closer.
Scrooge is portrayed by Quinn Beier, a dedicated and talented senior of Geneva’s theater program.
Quinn says that the role has been rewarding but challenging as he has worked “to find who Scrooge is in my eyes.” For Quinn, it has been important for his portrayal to honor who the character is, but he has also indulged in adding “a little bit of my own spirit into the character.” He looks forward to making audiences laugh while also feeling the gratification and emotion of Scrooge’s journey.
No version of “A Christmas Carol” would be complete without its ghosts. Senior Maeve Olechowski plays the ghost of Christmas present and says she is excited for audiences to experience her “untraditional” take on the character. She says it has been rewarding to work with friends she’s known for a long time and to get to know new people as the cast works “to try something new and to create with others.”
The cast and crew share this sentiment, having strived to make the show they best the can and enrich it with their own holiday spirit.
The fall play is directed by Drew Longo, an English teacher and one of the theater directors at Geneva High School. The students have enjoyed working with him, many saying that he does a great job of keeping the rehearsal space fun while working productively and meticulously. His directing style is demanding but rewarding, and the cast looks forward to presenting their hard work to an audience.
With a stellar cast of students from all grades, this classic play is the perfect stop during your holiday season. The cast and crew hope to lift your spirits with their ghostly performances this upcoming weekend!
