Trump should take columnist’s advice

It is so encouraging to see Veronique de Rugy write about fiscal integrity. Donald Trump and the GOP indeed have the opportunity to apply what she recommends. They should heed her advice.

I doubt that they will do it. His across-the-board tariffs aren't designed for negotiations, as they aren't aimed at anyone in particular. He has a very fact-challenged view of tariffs that they generate income. Nonsense. The consumers have to pay the tariffs which will have serious consequences for those he allegedly wishes to benefit. He wasn't fiscally responsible in his first term; and his proposals will be even less so this time.

His proposal to make his tax “reforms” permanent will not be able to pay for themselves; and neither will his proposals to cut taxes for Social Security, tips, and more. Drastic cuts in our allegedly discretionary portion of our budgets won't pay for them either; but will cause misery for many.

He shows no concern for fiscal discipline, not surprising for someone who had 6 bankruptcies including for two casinos (how anyone can go bankrupt with a casino is a testimony to his very poor economic integrity). Those who voted for him will be disappointed. They believed his lies about his economic record which was very bad when one includes his mismanagement of the COVID pandemic. What a shock that he never focused on that to potential voters.
