One hurt, one in custody after shooting in Elgin

Elgin police said a woman suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening after being shot Tuesday evening.

Police were called to the 400 block of South Belmont Street at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and located the injured woman who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police officials said the suspected shooter remained at the scene and was taken into custody. The victim and shooter were known to each other, police added. No charges have been announced yet.
