Side Street Studio Arts to host its first Gray Matters Podcast Festival
Side Street Studio Arts will be hosting its inaugural Gray Matters Podcast Festival, an evening dedicated to thoughtful, enlightening, and informative podcasts.
The event will showcase live podcast performances from a few creators starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, in the gallery at Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court in downtown Elgin.
The festival features three podcasts that explore a wide array of intriguing topics. The schedule will be “Insurance vs. History” at 6:30 p.m., “Maybe It’s Spiritual” at 7:45 p.m., and Patrick Hicks Music Stories at 9 p.m.
“Podcasts have sparked a renaissance in lifelong learning, offering a wealth of opportunities for listeners to be informed and inspired,” said Nick Mataragas, director of programming at SSSA. “We are excited to spotlight these talented, local creators in an evening of informative entertainment.”
Insurance vs. History
Dive into the unexpected ways insurance has shaped — or failed to shape — history in this engaging podcast. Meredith Brasher is the voice behind the show @insurancevshistory. Past episodes include: “Insurance vs. Enron” and “Insurance vs. The Titanic.” Brasher will make you think about insurance in a whole new way.
Maybe It's Spiritual
A podcast by Raphael Gonzalez offering a paranormal perspective. Guests share personal, supernatural experiences in a safe space, exploring theories and offering advice for listeners who may have encountered similar phenomena. The show also covers a variety of paranormal topics.
Patrick Hicks Music Stories
Discover the best of music history with Patrick Hicks, a Substack favorite and music historian with over 500,000 followers. The podcast features captivating thematic video series, exclusive artist interviews, and insightful commentary on today's music scene.

Gray Matters is part of Side Street Studio Arts' ongoing Audio Matters series, which celebrates the art of storytelling through sound.
