Sour grapes, but finally some sanity
What has become of my beloved Sunday Daily Herald, the newspaper I’ve always read because of its objective voice and suburban news? The worst hit me when I turned to the Opinion page of the Nov. 10 edition. “The loyal opposition” editorial began with this somber tone: “Here we are. Half the country reveling today in joy, the other half crestfallen in despair.”
Rather than congratulate President-Elect Donald Trump on his against-all-odds election victory, the editorial tries to minimize what he accomplished (“not a landslide”) and labels him “a felon who left office in disgrace.” More far-left talking points follow: “ … he has vocally undermined virtually every institution that serves as the country’s foundation.” Perhaps the Herald Editorial Board is frustrated because they endorsed Kamala and her message of hope earlier and voters did not buy it. It all sounds like sour grapes.
I scanned down the page to read Keith Peterson’s negative Guest View where he says, “Trump has been president-elect for just a couple of days and the bond market is already signaling its concern.” Perhaps Peterson didn’t see reports of the booming post-election stock market. I finally found a dose of sanity in the Debra J. Saunders column where she offers this summary: “Harris sought to make the race about Trump. Problem: Voters know Trump. They lived through four years of his presidency and they were better off. They didn’t know Harris and Harris deliberately avoided tough questions that attempted to shine a light on her far-left record.”
