Driver arrested after chase in Des Plaines and crash in Elk Grove Village

A Broadview man was arrested Wednesday after leading Des Plaines police on a car chase and then crashing in a different suburb, authorities said in a press release.

Cristian Ramirez, 30, of the 2000 block of South 14th Avenue, is charged with felony aggravated fleeing to elude a peace officer. Ramirez also was ticketed for speeding, improper lane usage and a headlight violation.

The chase began after a Des Plaines officer patrolling near Oakton and White streets was passed by a white Dodge Challenger without a front license plate and with a malfunctioning headlight, according to the release.

The officer tried to stop the Dodge but it sped away, and eventually the officer stopped chasing the car.

Ramirez was released pending a court appearance, police said.
