Buffalo Grove Days surplus benefiting the Buffalo Grove Community Foundation
Some of the profits from Buffalo Grove Days, the community’s annual Labor Day weekend festival, will benefit the Buffalo Grove Community Foundation.
The foundation, which supports villagewide initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life, will receive $14,000.
Past initiatives have included the Vernon Township Back Packers Club, GiveNKind and an “Anger to Action: Implicit Bias Training” workshop hosted by the League of Women Voters.
Trustee David Weidenfeld said last year the village partnered with the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove on organization grants.
Molly Gillespie, the village's director of communications and community engagement, told the village board Monday the five-day festival saw nearly 28,000 visitors.
Gillespie said this is the fourth year the village has partnered with the Buffalo Grove Park District for the festival.
This year, the festival earned more than $93,000, with more the park district collecting more than $46,000. The village, minus expenses, garnered more than $37,000. What isn’t donated to the foundation is invested in future events and programming.
Trustee Joanne Johnson said she would like to see the foundation receive more publicity.
“People can donate to it. People can leave it in their estate plans,” she said.
