Smiles instead of scares at Elgin senior home’s Halloween Hike

Halloween might be a celebration of all the things that give us a fright, but there was nothing but smiles and joy Sunday during the 6th annual Halloween Hike at The Vines Senior Homes in Elgin.

The yearly event allows children to test out their costumes and trick-of-treat skills a few days earlier for the senior residents, many of them grandparents and great-grandparents of the young visitors.

“This is a great opportunity for the kids to see their great grandmother and her friends,” said Jose Garcia of Bartlett, who brought his 4-month-old daughter, Sofia, to see great grandmother Alice Eichhorst. “This brings some joy to the residents here.”
