Endorsement: Stava-Murray for Illinois House 81st District

Two candidates are vying for state representative in the 81st District.

Incumbent Anne Stava-Murray of Naperville, a Democrat first elected in 2018, is facing newcomer Aaron Porter, a Naperville resident and Willowbrook police officer, making his first run for office.

Stava-Murray has gained a great deal of experience over her 3 terms in office. She’s worked in Springfield to strengthen reproductive rights and is passionate working to strengthen gun control laws, including Katrina’s Bill, which would require law enforcement to remove guns from people who face domestic abuse charges or have orders of protection against them.

Porter supports a number of measures in the SAFE-T act, including bodycams for officers. He’s pro-life, but says he’s not going to Springfield to change reproductive laws that are already in place.

Both candidates are under 40, and it’s great to see a new generation of people standing up and running for political office.

While we’re impressed with Porter, Stava-Murray’s stances on issues such as gun control and abortion rights are well-reasoned and well-defined.

Stava-Murray deserves another term in Springfield. She is endorsed.

The 81st District includes portions of Naperville, Downers Grove, Woodridge and Darien.
