Huntley’s Shepherd of the Prairie donates 114 handmade quilts

The Prairie Pointe Quilters at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley have devoted hours to creating custom quilts to give to others for comfort in their time of need.

After the completion of their hard work throughout the past year, 114 quilts filled the church sanctuary during services on the weekend of Sept. 21-22, for a special blessing by Senior Pastor Mark Boster.

Seven quilts will be given to the local women’s shelter Turning Point Shelter in Woodstock, which offers programs and services for individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. Two quilts were given to church members and 105 quilts will be sent to Lutheran World Relief to be given to people all over the world.

“We are proud to see all of the unique, colorful, and beautiful quilts on display together,” said Bev Kenny, coordinator of the Prairie Pointe Quilters, “but most of all, we hope to make a difference in comforting someone’s life.”

To support the project, Shepherd of the Prairie members are generous in filling a “quarter jar” on display at the church with monetary donations to help the quilt ministry.

The Prairie Pointe Quilters, as well as the prayer shawl ministry, are always in need of yarn or fabrics for their projects. Donations can be dropped off at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church.

“We welcome new members to our quilting ministry,” Kenny said. “Knowing how to quilt is not a requirement for anyone to join. We encourage others to learn and enjoy fellowship together.”

The group meets at 9 a.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the church, 10805 Main St.
