Crash involving ambulance in Barrington sends one to hospital
One person suffered injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening in a two-vehicle crash involving an ambulance Sunday evening and was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
Police said the Superior ambulance was carrying a 3-year-old boy and his 39-year-old mother from Good Shepherd to another hospital when it was struck by a passenger vehicle just after 9 p.m. at Northwest Highway and Hough Street.
According to police, the driver of a 2012 Mazda 3 was heading southeast on Northwest Highway approached the intersection at Hough during a green light and did not see the ambulance.
Witnesses said the ambulance, which was traveling south on Hough, was proceeding through the intersection on a red light but had its lights and siren activated.
The car struck the ambulance on the passenger side, police said.
The mother suffered injuries that are not life-threatening and was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd, officials said.
