Experience not the only qualification
It is campaign time again as Mr. Slusher stated in his letter of Sept. 5 and that the goal is to provide balanced information on all candidates.
As this campaign is coming to the finish line and the Daily Herald will be making their endorsements, I can almost predict that most of the endorsements will go to the incumbent officeholders and in this state it will be slanted to the Democrats. The reason will be that even though the challenger is a good person and has good qualifications that the present officeholder is more qualified because they are in office and are more aware of what needs to be done.
The people that are presently in office especially in this state vote on matters that are not in the interest of the people of the state but in the interest of the party. The same applies to the federal offices. If you keep on endorsing these same people, nothing will change. Endorsements should be based on substance and reason, not on personality or emotion or previous experience. It’s time to pick candidates that uplift the people and not a party.
It may be time for the Herald to do away with endorsements and let the people decide who to vote for without all the hype.
