IDOT worker hit by car in Long Grove

An IDOT worker was hospitalized after being hit by a car in Long Grove Wednesday morning, officials said.

Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded to a car versus pedestrian crash on Route 22 and North Krueger Road about 8:20 a.m.

A 52-year-old Beach Park man working for the Illinois Department of Transportation as a flagger was directing traffic when the driver, a 57-year-old Deerfield man driving west ignored a request to stop, which would have allowed eastbound traffic to proceed, officials said.

To prevent the Deerfield driver from causing a crash, the flagger stepped into traffic, where the driver struck him, police said.

The Beach Park man suffered injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening; he was taken to a hospital for treatment. The driver, who was not hurt, was cited with disobeying a flagger and disobeying a traffic control device.
