Journey through the cosmos with Elmhurst Symphony’s ‘The Planets & Star Wars’

The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra will perform “The Planets & Star Wars,” its first concert of the 2024-25 season, on Saturday, Oct. 5. The concert, led by music director and conductor Stephen Alltop, will begin at 7 p.m. at the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W Brush Hill Road in Elmhurst.

The evening promises a celestial experience for all attendees, beginning with a pre-concert lecture by Assistant Conductor Eli Chen at 5:45 p.m. in the Upper Gathering Area of the church. This informative session will provide insights into the evening’s program, enhancing the audience’s appreciation of the music to come.

The program will feature English composer Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” and American composer John Williams’ “Star Wars Suite.”

Holst’s “The Planets” is celebrated as one of the most iconic works in the classical music repertoire. Completed in 1917 and inspired by astrological themes, this masterpiece has influenced countless composers, including John Williams, whose “Star Wars Suite” will also be performed.

In 2005, the American Film Institute named the “Star Wars” soundtrack the most memorable score of all time for an American film, making this concert a must-see for music lovers and movie fans alike.

Tickets for “The Planets & Star Wars” are available for purchase online, by phone, or at the box office on the day of the event. Discounted prices are available for seniors and students.

For tickets or information, visit ElmhurstSymphony.org or call the Elmhurst Symphony Association office at (630) 941-0202, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
